MEN IN SKIRTS / DRESSES - MEN'S FASHION WEEK - SPRING SUMMER 2012

Yes ! Men in Skirts and Dresses ! That's what it's gonna be on the streets in coming years. A trend which is slowly building up strong from past a few year. John Galliano, Comme Des Garcons, Etro , Marc Jacobs have done it in the past and in this fashion week also (Men's SS2012) it was repeated by greats like Yohji Yamamoto , Rick Owens and few else. The androgynous look is getting stronger and is being accepted by the people as fashion steps in the 3G era. However, if you think that these looks are just meant to be on catwalk then you need to be updated ! Ask  Scott Schuman, the great cool hunter who has captured quite a few men in skirt through his lenses for his blog.
I would really like to know what women has to say about this ?

RICK OWENS

Rick Owens' signature style is Gothicism, Vampirish which is often cut into a structured silhouette and it sometimes dealt with volumes but this time it was little different as his men came in long dresses with  geometrical prints / patterns, short dresses beneath the blazer were worn over straight skirts but the coolest look was the one in which  short sleeveless top was worn and wrapped over a long dress in some short of monkish way ! Very interesting.

YOHJI YAMAMOTO

Yohji Yamamoto, known for his ground breaking designs which usually takes the route of super fine and awesome fabrics cut into a silhouette that has a lot of volume, relaxed, baggie and not to forget that all of these comes mostly in "Black" - his signature style ! This time, he sent his men in skirts, loose fluid short-pants which came in various colors, prints and stripes. Though the collection  was very Asian  inspired but it spoke of  a character which doesn't care about caste, creed and age but only fashion !

BURBERRY TO LANVIN , GALLIANO TO GUCCI and much more - DISCOVER BEST OF MEN'S FASHION WEEK -SPRING SUMMER 2012

BURBERRY PRORSUM

Christopher Bailey presented a very cool and rich collection with lots of handwork input in it. Burberry boys marched in knit wears worn on slim fit trousers, donned with pompom straw caps and in Jute-leather woven shoes and hand bags. With ikat printed shirts - trousers in bright shades of color and detailed hand work highly suggested that Mr.Bailey took the boys through a tribal route this season.
I really like what Christopher Bailey has done to Burberry ! It's no more just a luxury brand for an old which was known for their super trenches but now also for a young, dynamic and trendy individuals.

 DSQUARED

The Tourist ! The American Tourist ! Dean and Dan's tourist started his adventurous journey with a sporty and preppy look - cool printed shirt/t-shirt worn over a slim denim tucked under hiking boots, a thin scarf wrapped around  neck and a cap on the head.
Then came the beaches and Mr.Tourist shed of his clothes and got into undies and vests in order to get tanned ! Now, up on the stage  our Tourist seemed like had reached Italy because he was dressed in super slim fit ankle length colored trousers clubbed with bomber jackets and loafers.
Dsquared tourist's looks suggested that his colorful journey came to an end at London as he was dressed in a black blazer with nicely sequined lapel over slim fit indigo denim and in supper skinny leather leggings ,in an aggressive mood trying to be a Brit Punk .

LANVIN

The collection might be inspired from war and military but Alber Elbaz, creative director at Lanvin made it clear that Lanvin Guy is a peace lover.
The collection was a mix of silhouette which was cut close to body with an immaculate fit as well as of silhouettes which were loose and relaxed tucked in military boots. A few looks had lot of layering and draping. The color pallet ranged from military khaki to sunflower yellow, velvet blue to grey with shades of black and white.

JOHN GALLIANO

It felt like Galliano was with the collection at the start  and at the end of the collection ! And in between ? Well after the start, Galliano's signature style waned out and Bill Gayten's style  crept  in and then slowly faded out to Galliano's style towards the end . A strategy in order to stay connected with Galliano's fans !
A feather in the hat, colorful military jackets worn over beautifully printed relaxed pants. Vest coats and short jackets in prince of wales check and stripes were also seen and at the end came the Pirates - skinny black trousers worn over slim fit black coats and pointed shoes donning a very macho and aggressive look - Galliano's signature style.
For those, who were waiting for the surprise embraced The School Boy's look. Blazers worn over colorful shorts with  slim square end tie and baseball cap on the head - very commercial indeed !

 GUCCI

The season's hottest trend  is checks and stripes, especially Prince of wales check and houndstooth pattern and Frida Giannini at Gucci decided to stay with it. Slim fitted , nicely tailored suits came in variety of checks, houndstooth pattern and stripes-majority of them in very earthy color.
But I felt the best part of the collection was the accessories. The leather bags and the holdalls came in different colors to help you beat the heat- sane white to bright red , in black croco prints as well as in plain leather too and don't forget the stunning glasses which would definitely make any head turn  !

 LOUIS VUITTON

Kim Jones at Louis Vuitton stuck to the brand's DNA this season. Known for their luxury products for travel and tour, the collection revolved around Louis Vuitton Man who would be traveling around the world for Safari rides in next summer !
Rich knits which came in khaki, navy and red-blue checks was worn over shorts making the look very sporty which later on was replaced by well fitted short jackets, khaki shorts, shirts clubbed with contrast red and blue scarves.
